5 Tips When Bow Hunting

Bow hunting can be an extremely rewarding sport. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned bow hunter, there are some things that you need to keep in mind before you head out.

Here are 5 tips when you’re bow hunting.

• Practice. Arrow placement is extremely important. You should be able to draw the bow back quietly and slowly. Practicing your shooting improves your accuracy and builds the muscles required for you to draw the bow back properly. Practice shooting while sitting, standing or from your porch. The more prepared you are, the higher your chances will be more for a successful hunting experience.

• Ensure your gear is properly taken care of and stored. A poorly maintained bow is not only inefficient, but also runs the risk of blowing up or misfiring. Keep your gear somewhere away from extreme humidity or temperatures. Look at the string for any signs of fraying. A snapped string may only cause bruises or small wounds, but changing it before you go out will definitely save you a lot of pain and stress.

• Bring a first aid kit with you. You can get a small, portable kit from drug stores. This kit includes all the items needed for a day trip such as hydrogen peroxide, bandages, tweezers, gauze and aspirin. You can also bring a survival kit. Don’t forget to bring lots of water.

• Ensure you have a quiver to carry the arrows in. The quiver should be durable and cover the broadhead tips. Make sure that the bottom of the quiver is in great shape. If you see some wear and tear, you can put a sheet of metal on the bottom and cover it with soft sponge to prevent the arrows from clashing against each other if you’re using an older style quiver.

• Be careful when you line up your shot. If you have doubts about your target, do not shoot until you are sure it is really what you are aiming at. Remember that when you’re out bow hunting, you have to be quite close to your target in order to shoot it.
